Voice Over Session FAQs

Delivering High-Quality Voiceover Sessions with Clarity, Speed, and Professionalism

If you’re hiring a professional voice actor, you likely have questions about what to expect from a voiceover session. Below are answers to the most common questions about the voiceover process, revisions, technical specs, and delivery — so you can move forward with confidence.

What happens during a typical voiceover session?

A typical voiceover session begins with a review of your script and any notes you’ve provided, such as pronunciation guidance or tone preferences. If you’re attending the session live, we’ll connect using your preferred platform so you can provide direction in real time.

Once we begin, I’ll deliver multiple takes as needed, adjusting performance based on feedback. If the session is not live, I’ll use your notes to guide delivery and send the edited audio file according to your preferred format. Each voiceover session is structured to be efficient, collaborative, and focused on producing the best possible result for your project.

Turnaround times vary depending on the length and complexity of your script, but I pride myself on delivering voiceover sessions on time, every time. Just let me know your deadline upfront, and I’ll ensure your project is prioritized accordingly.

To keep the voiceover session moving efficiently, finalized scripts are preferred. Including pronunciation guides and any reference materials (such as a temp track or sample read) can help streamline the process even further.

Your voiceover session will be recorded in a custom-built GIK Acoustics vocal booth using high-end microphones, including the Sennheiser MKH‑416 and Neumann TLM 103. I record clean, professional audio suitable for broadcast and commercial use.

All files are delivered in 48 kHz, 24-bit WAV format by default, ensuring studio-grade sound quality. If you need a different format, I’m happy to accommodate your preferences—just let me know before or after your voiceover session.

Yes, I offer live-directed voiceover sessions for clients who want to be part of the process in real time. You can listen in and give feedback live via Source‑Connect (username: robstar1), Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, or FaceTime.

There’s no extra charge for live direction. You’re welcome to guide tone, pacing, emphasis, and more, ensuring that the final voiceover session delivers exactly the performance you’re after.

My goal is to get it right the first time, but I understand that updates and changes happen. Here’s how revisions and retakes are handled after your voiceover session:

  • Retakes due to my error: Free of charge
  • Minor revisions (1–2 words or short sentence changes): Free
  • Major script revisions: Starting at $75
  • Full short-form re-reads: Starting at $150
  • Performance retakes: One round is free. Additional rounds are considered revisions and billed accordingly.

All revision requests should be submitted within 30 days of audio delivery.

Unless otherwise requested, I deliver cleaned and edited audio files that are ready to use in your production. If you prefer raw or unprocessed audio, I’m happy to provide that as well—just mention it during or after the voiceover session.

By default, I offer up to five split audio files at no additional cost. This is especially helpful if your script has multiple sections or segments you need delivered as separate files.

If you need to request changes following your voiceover session, please send them within 30 days of receiving the audio. For best results:

  • Highlight or mark any script changes clearly

  • If your voiceover is synced to video, include timecodes or timestamps to help ensure precise alignment

The more context you provide, the more efficiently I can complete your updates while maintaining consistency with the original voiceover session.

You’re welcome to join the voiceover session live, but it’s not required. Many clients prefer to send over a finalized script and let me handle the rest. If you have specific direction or want to fine-tune performance in real time, live attendance can be helpful — but I’m fully equipped to deliver high-quality audio independently based on your notes and direction.

To keep your voiceover session running smoothly, it’s best to format your script with clear speaker labels (if applicable), scene or section headers, and pronunciation notes for any unusual terms or names.

Avoid sending scripts in all caps or unstructured paragraphs. Simple formatting — even just bolding important words or adding notes in brackets — makes it easier to interpret your intent and deliver a clean, accurate voiceover.

Yes, I retain copies of delivered audio for a reasonable period in case you need a file resent or require minor adjustments down the line. If you anticipate needing new versions or updates in the future, just let me know, and I’ll ensure your files are archived accordingly.
